COMPARATIVES

TO REVIEW: We use the comparative when we compare two things or people. We use the particle "than" to introduce the second element. Example: Pau (element 1) is taller than Trevor (element 2).       

- There are two ways of putting and adjective into the comparative form:

    a) With short adjectives (one or two syllables), we add -er to the adjective.
     For example:  clean -> cleaner    long -> longer    short -> shorter    fast -> faster 


1.Attention: with adjectives ending in -e we add only -r.
         nice -> nicer          safe -> safer 
2.Attention: with adjectives ending in -y we take away the -y and add -ier.
         happy -> happier          easy -> easier          scary -> scarier 
3.Attention: with adjectives ending in consonant + vowel + consonant we double the last consonant.         big -> bigger          fat -> fatter          thin -> thinner 
4.Attention: some adjectives have irregular forms. For example:
         good -> better          bad -> worse          far -> farther / further 


    b) With long adjectives, we add "more" in front of the adjective.
    Long adjectives have got two or more syllables. For example:
         beautiful -> more beautiful   important -> more important    boring -> more boring          famous -> most famous

DIFFICULT: WHAT TIME IS IT?

There are two common ways of telling the time:

1) Formal but easier way: say the hours first and then the minutes.

Example: 7:45 - seven forty-five

For minutes 01 through 09 pronounce the '0' as oh. Example: 11:06: eleven oh six.

2) More popular way

Say the minutes first and then the hours:
- you must use the word "past" if the minutes are between 1 and 30. 
- you must use the word "to" if the minutes are between 31 and 59.

Example: 7:35: twenty five to eight / 8:40: twenty to nine.

* Another possibility of saying '15 minutes past' is: a quarter past

* Another possibility of saying '15 minutes to' is: a quarter to

* Another possibility of saying '30 minutes past' is: half past

DAYS AND MONTHS

It's time to review the spelling of the days of the week and months of the year. Remember: you must write always the firt letter in Capital Letter.

Example: Wednesday / July

Be careful with you French knowledge. Some months have a similar writing, but some letters change (English: December / French: Decembre).

FLYERS EXAM: "TIME" TO REVIEW

In three weeks we are going to do the Flyers Exam. It's time to work a bit harder to get already prepared for it. I think that if you work it as I say so, you are going to do it brilliant.

You can start with this new test about "TIME". Remember to send your score to your teacher. If you have any question, do not hesitate (no dudes) to ask me.

THERE IS / THERE ARE

As we have explained many times in class, the rule is simple: when we are talking about something in singular we use "There is". On the other hand, when we refer to something in plurar, we use "There are".

DIFFERENCES: HOW MUCH AND HOW MANY?

The difference between how many and how much is that the firt one we use when we have a countable noun; and the second one, how much, talks about uncountable nouns.

Example:  How many markers do you have? How much milk do you want?

We can count the markers but not the milk. Try this new exercise and check your knowledge (conocimiento) about this specific rule.

What, When, Which, Who, Where, Why, How?

WHO is only used when referring to people: QUIÉN.

WHERE is used when referring to a place or location: DÓNDE.

WHEN is used to refer to a time or an occasion: CUÁNDO.

WHY is used to obtain an explanation or a reason: POR QUÉ.

WHAT is used to refer to specific information: CUÁL.

WHICH is used when a choice needs to be made: CUÁL, pero con elección entre UNA u OTRA.

HOW is used to describe the manner that something is done: CÓMO.

IMPORTANT

To remember: 

When we write the Pronoun "I", we must write it always with CAPITAL LETTER. 

I can see in your comments that you are used to write "i", and this is a mistake, ok? "Proper nouns, days of the week or months of the year always ask for a capital letter in their first letter".
