5) THE BEATLES AND EIGHT DAYS A WEEK

Last Friday, three students from 4th of Primary came to my office and begged me to upload another song from the amazing group, The Beatles. I promised I will do it, so here we are, with the fifth post. The following song is "Eight days a week", another hit from these popular guys.

The song was written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney and released on the second album in1964, Beatles For Sale. Now you can follow the lyric and sing (not too loud, because the weather is fine in Pamplona...). The song, along with two others from the album "Baby's in Black" and "No Reply", was planned as a single release. In the end, it was released as a single only in the United States on 15 February 1965 becoming a number-one hit (their seventh).

Ooh I need your love babe,
Guess you know it's true.
Hope you need my love babe,
Just like I need you,Ooo.

Hold me, love me, hold me, love me.
I ain't got nothin' but love babe,
Eight days a week.

Love you ev'ry day girl,
Always on my mind.
One thing I can say girl,
Love you all the time,ooh

Hold me, love me, hold me, love me.
I ain't got nothin' but love girl,
Eight days a week.

Eight days a week
I love you.
Eight days a week
Is not enough to show I care.

Ooh I need your love babe,
Guess you know it's true.
Hope you need my love babe,
Just like I need you.

Hold me, love me, hold me, love me.
I ain't got nothin' but love babe,
Eight days a week.

Eight days a week
I love you.
Eight days a week
Is not enough to show I care.

Love you ev'ry day girl,
Always on my mind.
One thing I can say girl,
Love you all the time.

Hold me, love me, hold me, love me.
I ain't got nothin' but love babe,
Eight days a week,
Eight days a week,
Eight days a week.

AND THE WINNER IS...

Today we have received the good news that a student from our class has won the OSASUNA'S FOUNDATION PRIZE in the category of "Essays" (redacciones). The panel of judges has taken into account his original and creative writing amongst other things and, finally, he has been the winner of all Navarre.

Congratulations for this small student and, of course, for all his mates (compaƱeros). We should be proud (orgullosos) of the class where we work. On Monday, the 23rd of May, we will celebrate in class.

Looking at both pictures, which one is the hidden student? Guess with a comment!

Clue: he likes to play football in the playgrounds with a small ball but he is used to lose (a pity, je, je).

Deadline: Sunday, the 22nd of May.

4) STILL HAVEN'T FOUND WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR

It's time for the last post about U2. And I'm going to finish this incredible group of music with another famous song, Still haven't found what I'm looking for. It is the second track from their 1987 album The Joshua Tree and was released as the album's second single in May 1987. The song was a hit, becoming the band's second consecutive number-one single on the US after With or without you.

EXTRA POINT: WHAT DOES IT MEAN THE TITLE OF THIS SONG?

DEADLINE: Monday, the 23rd of May.

COMPARATIVES

TO REVIEW: We use the comparative when we compare two things or people. We use the particle "than" to introduce the second element. Example: Pau (element 1) is taller than Trevor (element 2)

- There are two ways of putting and adjective into the comparative form:

    a) With short adjectives (one or two syllables), we add -er to the adjective.
For example:  clean -> cleaner    long -> longer    short -> shorter    fast -> faster

1.Attention: with adjectives ending in -e we add only -r.
nice -> nicer          safe -> safer
2.Attention: with adjectives ending in -y we take away the -y and add -ier.
happy -> happier          easy -> easier          scary -> scarier

3.Attention: with adjectives ending in consonant + vowel + consonant we double the last consonant.         big -> bigger          fat -> fatter          thin -> thinner
4.Attention: some adjectives have irregular forms. For example:
good -> better          bad -> worse          far -> farther / further

    b) With long adjectives, we add "more" in front of the adjective.
Long adjectives have got two or more syllables. For example:
beautiful -> more beautiful   important -> more important    boring -> more boring          famous -> most famous

3) BEAUTIFUL DAY: GREATEST HITS!

Beautiful Day is another succesful song by the rock band U2. It is the first track from their 2000 album, All that you Can't Leave Behind, and it was released as the album's lead single. It's one of U2's biggest hits to date.

In 2001, the song won Three Grammy Awards for             Song of the Year, Record of the Year and Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal. The group has played "Beautiful Day" at every one of their concerts since the song's 2001 live debut.

REMEMBER: listen and sing at the same time.

ADVICE: this song isn't easy to sing, because the rythm and the music is a bit fast, but once you have listened twice, I think that you can do it!

DIFFICULT: WHAT TIME IS IT?

There are two common ways of telling the time:

1) Formal but easier way: say the hours first and then the minutes.

Example: 7:45 - seven forty-five
For minutes 01 through 09 pronounce the '0' as oh. Example: 11:06: eleven oh six.

2) More popular way
Say the minutes first and then the hours:
- you must use the word "past" if the minutes are between 1 and 30.
- you must use the word "to" if the minutes are between 31 and 59.

Example: 7:35: twenty five to eight / 8:40: twenty to nine.

* Another possibility of saying '15 minutes past' is: a quarter past
* Another possibility of saying '15 minutes to' is: a quarter to
* Another possibility of saying '30 minutes past' is: half past

2) STUCK IN A MOMENT

The name "U2" is an original name. It plays with its meaning thanks to some homophone words. If we translate into Spanish, the name means "Tu tambiƩn" (pronunciation "U" = you / 2 = two : "You too"), as a way of becoming closer to their fans.

The song that I recommend now is "Stuck in a moment you can't get out of", from the album All That You Can't Leave Behind. This album is the tenth studio album that sold (vendiĆ³) over 12 million copies.

Remember: this exercise is very useful to practice your pronunciation. You must sing at the same time that you listen.

EXTRA POINT: WHAT DOES IT MEAN IN SPANISH THE TITLE OF THIS SONG? SEND A COMMENT WITH YOUR ANSWER.

Deadline: 6th of May.

Here you have a new writing. It's the time of Pablo de Uribazo, who likes sea animals and specially the white shark. As always, try to find his mistakes and send a comment to help him.

"The shark is the biggest fish of the world. The sharks have hot blood and live in hot water. They hunt fish and seals. The great White shark is the most dangerous shark, it has the snout in cone form and the black eyes. The theet in arrow head instead of is name, is body didin´t White, is blue and grey. His food favourite is seals".

1) U2: AN IRISH FAMOUS GROUP!

Now it's time to publish some new entries about a second music group: U2. They are an Irish rock band from the capital of Ireland, Dublin. Formed in 1976, the group consists of Bono (vocals and guitar), The Edge (guitar, keyboards and vocals), Adam Clayton (bass guitar), and Larry Mullen (drums and percussion). They have released (lanzado) 12 studio albums and they have sold more than 150 million records worldwide. They have won 22 Grammy Awards (like the Oscars for films), more than any other band.

It's time to tell you: I'm really fond of this incredible group. One of their most popular song is "With or Without you", that you can play and sing it now. Enjoy it!

DIFFERENCES: HOW MUCH AND HOW MANY?

The difference between how many and how much is that the firt one we use when we have a countable noun; and the second one, how much, talks about uncountable nouns.

Example:  How many markers do you have? How much milk do you want?

We can count the markers but not the milk. Try this new exercise and check your knowledge (conocimiento) about this specific rule.

3) THE BEATLES: LET IT BE

Let It Be is the 12th and final studio album released by the English rock band The Beatles. It was released on 8 May 1970 by the band's Apple Records label shortly after the group's announced break-up. Paul McCartney wrote this song for his mother. Nowadays it's one of the most popular songs of this British group.

2) MUSIC: YESTERDAY

"Yesterday" is a song originally recorded by The Beatles for their 1965 album Help! According to Guinness World Records, "Yesterday" has the most cover versions of any song ever written. The song remains popular today with more than 1,600 recorded cover versions, the first hitting the United Kingdom top 10 three months after the release of Help!

According to biographers of McCartney and the Beatles, McCartney composed the entire melody in a dream one night.

Follow the lyric below and you can sing too, at the same time as Paul McCartney.

Yesterday, all my troubles seemed so far away.
Now it looks as though they're here to stay.
Oh, I believe in yesterday.

Suddenly,

I'm not half the man I used to be,
There's a shadow hanging over me,
Oh, yesterday came suddenly.

Why she had to go
I don't know she wouldn't say.
I said something wrong,
Now I long for yesterday.

Yesterday, love was such an easy game to play.

Now I need a place to hide away.
Oh, I believe in yesterday.

Why she had to go

I don't know she wouldn't say.
I said something wrong,
Now I long for yesterday.

Yesterday, love was such an easy game to play.

Now I need a place to hide away.
Oh, I believe in yesterday.
Mm mm mm mm mm mm mm.

The Beatles were an English rock band, formed in Liverpool in 1960, and one of the most commercially succesful and critically acclaimed acts in the history of popular music.
